On November 19, Joe Devine, President of Axiotrop, and Andrew Lynch, Vice President of Sales at Virtru discussed the final updates to CMMC and the need to protect and control CUI. They shared their expertise on CMMC 2.0 for organizations within the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) on what to anticipate and how to prepare.

Joe Devine explained that with CMMC 2.0 rule effective December 16, DIB contractors can now pursue their CMMC third party assessment by a C3PAO. Additionally, prime contractors can now require their subcontractors to be assessed. This will put more pressure on DIB companies to get started on their cybersecurity programs.
The CMMC updates are a chance for companies to make cybersecurity compliance part of their strategy for success, rather than just satisfying another requirement. By using the right tools and focusing on protecting sensitive information, businesses can create a secure and efficient work environment that benefits everyone involved. This is extremely important to defense customers.
Meeting the new CMMC 2.0 standards isn’t just about avoiding fines, it's about showing the government that you’re a reliable partner. By using strong cybersecurity practices, businesses can stand out from competitors and build better relationships with federal clients.
Although the Department of Defense is taking a phased implementation approach to the CMMC rollout, getting your cybersecurity program completed and assessed can take as long as 24 months.
